Kōenji is a small area around Kōenji station, which accomodates lots of small bars, cafés, second-hand clothing and furniture shops als well as record shops. The area was quite uneffected by the 1980s building boom, so the houses and shops are really small and reflect the character of pre-boom Tokyo. It inhabits most of Tokyos punk and “retro” subculture, which I find quite enjoyable. This area also served as the setting for Murakami Harukis latest novel, 1Q84.

It’s such a good place to take pictures, so have a look. I especially liked the Karl Marx-stickers and the AAA Justice-graffitis — and I found a house that was completely burned, but still standing. I wonder how long it’s been like that…
